The quality of tea can be affected by many factors such as how tea leaves are grown and cared for, the processing of the tea, harvesting, storage / aging, brewing tea and equipments to make a perfect cup of tea.
We will look at what elements and how they affect the quality of tea and our appreciation of tea as a cultural beverage.
The quality of tea can be determined by cultivation, harvesting, processing, storage and even how we prepare teas.
I will talk briefly about how they affect tea quality based on my own farming and processing experience as well as Japanese Tea Instructor program that I studied some years ago.
We examine how various ways we store our tea will affect the freshness of the leaf, effectiveness of antioxidants and other chemical components and aging of tea.
We also look at what we can do to retain the freshness at a consumer level as well as how it changes from unfinished (crude finish) to final roasted stage.
